Frequently Asked Questions

The questions clients ask before opening a compliant account.

Compliance

Screening and purification

Who decides what is Shariah-compliant here?

We do not set the criteria ourselves. Abbasi and Company has appointed Meezan Bank as Shariah Advisor, and follows the screening mechanism used by the Pakistan Stock Exchange and Meezan Bank, as described on the screening page. Meezan Bank serves as Shariah Advisor to Namaa Capital. Thresholds are set by the Shariah advisory process behind the index and can be revised.

Is screening the same as a fatwa?

No. Screening is a systematic application of published criteria, and scholars differ on thresholds and structures. It is not a substitute for your own religious judgement. If a specific holding matters to you, ask and we will show you exactly which screens it passed.

What happens if a company I hold stops being compliant?

Screens are reapplied when companies publish results. If a holding fails, it is flagged to you with the screen it failed. The decision to hold or sell is always yours; where you have asked for guidance, the desk gives you its view first.

How does purification work?

Where a compliant company earns incidental non-compliant income, the proportion attributable to your dividends is calculated and reported so you can give it in charity without expectation of reward. See screening and purification.

Are sukuk really different from bonds?

Structurally, yes. A sukuk holder owns an undivided share in an identified asset or venture and receives rent or a profit share; a bondholder lends money and receives interest. The comparison is set out on the sukuk page.

Accounts

Opening and documentation

How do I open an account?

Digitally through the account opening portal, or at the head office in Lahore. Requirements are on the open an account page. Tell us it is to run on the compliant universe and it is set up on Namaa Capital from day one.

How long does it take?

Once documentation is complete and approved, the account is tradeable within two working days.

Can I open without a source-of-income document?

Yes, through a Sahulat Account: CNIC, a registered mobile number, an IBAN and your mother’s name. An investment ceiling set by the exchange applies.

I live abroad. Can I invest?

Yes, through a Roshan Digital Account opened with a bank designated by the State Bank of Pakistan. Tell the desk you want the compliant universe and the account runs on Namaa Capital.

I already have a conventional account. Can I switch?

Yes. It is the same firm, the same custody and the same settlement path, so moving from Tradin to Namaa Capital is administrative rather than a fresh onboarding. Existing non-compliant holdings need a decision, the desk will walk you through it.

Trading

Platform and market access

How do I trade?

Through the mobile app, the web terminal or the desktop terminal, see platform and downloads.

Is there a demo account?

Yes. Download the mobile app and sign up for a free 15-day view-only account, with the screened analytical portal included.

Can I buy any listed company through Namaa?

No, that is the point. The screener and the order book are restricted to the compliant universe. If you want unrestricted access, that is our conventional platform.
